A Divine Adventure

 by Rev. Katharine Baugh

I was not looking for a Divine Adventure,
but it appears that I am in the middle of one.

It started this past April when the house that my apartment was in was suddenly sold. I had 3 weeks to move out and could not find anything to rent on beautiful Cape Cod, MA, or the surrounding area. My sister, who lives in Michigan, offered a room in her home and my adventure began. My apartment furniture was moved, and most of it put in storage on Cape Cod, MA.
Then - I started on my journey.

Before driving to my sister’s place in Michigan, I took the time to visit 3 good friends living off the Cape in the New England area. I stayed with my friend Rita Kinkelaar for a few days in Vermont. Rita and I have been in many of the same healing workshops over the years but lived far apart. How peaceful it was to just have time to talk and “catch-up”. I enjoy her lovely home. No plans, no “doing”, just connecting.
I was filled with Hope.

Next, I drove to see my long-time friend and fellow healing workshop giver Nana (Nancy) Needham in NH. Her home is full of Tibetan Thonghas, sacred pictures, lots & lots of books and Spirit! We talked and walked, and spent time discussing many things in the past and the present.
Here I got Inspiration.

Next, I drove to RI where I stayed a few days with Virginia Chapin-Sheff and Rick Sheff. I walked in her lovely garden, talked and talked, remembering the many events we did together. No agenda.
Here I was filled with Love.

I then began the drive to the upper part of lower Michigan, putting 1,616 miles on my car from my leaving Cape Cod. My sister’s house is set in the woods, in a very small town called Central Lake. It is a beautiful, peaceful haven to rest and reflect. The week I arrived in Michigan, news reached me that the business that I started with my friend and fellow healer Jane Barger was going to have to close. The building that we worked out of since 1992 had been sold and the new landlord had raised the rent past what we could pay. After 29 years of our team-healing practice we needed to close our doors.

SO, back to Cape Cod I went. But first I took a journey to visit my younger sister, Marie - who lived near Indianapolis, Indiana. I talked to her on the phone every few weeks, but had not visited her and her husband for over 10 years.

Again, this was a visit to re-connect, catch up, and just hang-out together.
This was one of the best visits I have had with her.
A true blessing.

From Indiana, I drove back to Cape Cod, MA, an additional 1453 miles on my car.

Jane, I, and others worked on clearing out all our sacred objects and healing tables; the Crystal bed; and 29 years of collected and gifted objects.
It was a sad goodbye.

I composed a Letter via Constant Contact to the clients who had signed up to our newsletter -- (505 on the list) - that Cape Cod Energy Works was closing. The response to this letter was very heart lifting, as many, many people expressed their gratitude and appreciation for our work. Some were regular clients, but many of them we had seen only once. But over and over they reported that we impacted their lives in a positive way.
Another Divine Gift.

With my car filled with things from our office, I drove back to Michigan again putting another 1,576 miles on my odometer.
I mention the mileage as it is a long 2-day trip. When you are driving for miles and miles, there is lots of time to think and reflect. I believe that is when a thought entered my head that I was on a Divine Adventure.
The door had closed on my living on the East Coast, and my beloved business.

But another door was opening on living somewhere else.
It may be in Michigan; it may be in a different place…...
I am on a Divine Adventure…. and where I end up is unknown at the moment.

There is a Spiritualist Summer Camp a few miles from us, and I have been attending the services and finding it a comfortable place to be.
A Divine adventure to learn more about the Spiritualist Church.

Rentals are scarce here also, as they seem to be across the country.
Another Divine Adventure to surrender, be patient, but persistent in finding a new place to live.

My world has shifted, and I am grateful that I have a place where I am comfortable and safe until I find a home for me.
Reflecting that I am surrendering to a Divine Adventure.
