The Angelic Union Hall

 by Rev. Pat Hansen

My personal Divine is Mother Mary. I wear her Miraculous Medal always. When I read about how the medal was created, the nun (who later became St. Catherine Labouré) noticed the rays of light that flowed from the precious stones on the rings on Mary’s fingers. However, some of the stones did not shine.

Mary explained: "These rays symbolize the graces I shed upon those who ask for them. The gems from which rays do not fall are the graces for which souls forget to ask.”

Yes, that’s right. You have to ask for help. I’ve read in several places that universal forces (like angels) cannot intercede unless asked to do so.

This brought to mind a picture of an Angelic Union Hall. Countless numbers of angels, waiting as patiently as possible to be called upon to render help. I think we should aim for full employment in the angelic realm.

How can we achieve this goal? Ask for help.

By asking for help, not only do you provide employment for angels, you strengthen your bond with the universe/your personal divine/God/Divine Oneness, or however you relate to the All-That-Is.

My day is filled with miracles, because I asked for them. Miracles don’t have to be big events. Reversing climate change might have a pretty long runway, but a parking space at the Farmers Market, in my experience, can happen immediately. And at my Market that is a miracle.

My method of asking is really a prayer of gratitude. Instead of begging for that parking space, I say “Thank you, Mother Mary, for a perfect parking space when I get to the Farmers Market.”

Guess what. When I get to the Market, the space opens up. A miracle!

The more you ask for (or are grateful for in advance) the easier the process becomes.

If you pay attention, you might find your life is filled with miracles: the unexpected check that covers an unexpected expense; traffic lights that turn green as you approach, so you are not late for an important appointment. It could be a neighbor who unexpectedly comes over with a plate of food when you don’t have the energy to cook. A hummingbird hovering 2 feet away saying “hello” can be a joyous miracle.

Ask for what you need. Recognize and rejoice in all the miracles in your life, large and small. Together we can empty out the Angelic Union Hall.
